This experience happened to me Nov 2008~
Today was an awesome day! I am amazed at how things happen in life. We are each the author of our own destiny and have the pen in hand to write our own story. A wise leader of mine once said, “Live life with no regrets!” These five words etched in my mind and had a lasting impact on me. These words have helped propel me through the tough times that I face. Life isn’t easy all the time, in fact its very challenging at times. Of all the lessons I’ve learned, the one that sticks out currently is the sound principle of attitude. Attitude really does determine one’s altitude!

Today I was on the final rung of a very high ladder, just about to reach the top, and it all started back in April at rung #1 and then #2 and so on….

Today I met a lady at her home of the ripe young age of 93. She having a birthday one day apart from my own launched a conversation on common ground and we began talking about life.
I asked her how she’s been able to stay mobile and cheerful at such an age….she looked and acted as though she was maybe 70!

She chuckled and said, “Well, it begins with diet and state of mind, Christopher.” “I’m happy and find joy in things I do each day. Not many things can get me down. My husband past 14 years ago, but he’s gonna have to keep waiting for me, cuz I’m enjoying life.” She then proceeded to tell me about her travels and the beauties of the earth she loves to see. Her family means everything to her and she takes good care of her 70 year old daughter who has ms. Wow! What a great lesson at the end of a long marathon!

This lady is an optimist. Very full of life and I could tell that she savored each breath and moment that life dealt her. A great example to all of us, — a positive mental outlook on each day we’re given!
Meeting Vivian B. Rawdon today along with me reaching rung #300 to hit the top of my ladder was a great point to look around. This experience made me stop and think of how I got there…consistent effort with hard work, dedication, and a positive state of mind. When we set our minds to achieve something and work with the attitude that all things are possible, that nothing is going to stop us, and we proceed down the path, there really is nothing that can stop us… EXCEPT ourself!
This lesson has been passing through my mind a lot this year. Nobody can stop one from doing something except one’s self. Life is a journey with many ups and downs, trials and tribulations come and go, at times we feel like giving up on a task, but by pushing through and proceeding we find accomplishment at last.

When I was in 5th grade our teacher had us color a paper cut-out with a can on the side that read “If you think you can, you can!” We then glued it around a small can. I remember having this set upon my shelf all through the years of growing up and reading it often. I still have it today as a pen holder on my desk and use it as a daily reminder.

If you think you can, YOU can. If you think you can’t, you can’t! Either way you’re right. -Henry Ford

Today I reached a goal, a mark I’ve been working towards, a milestone, a pinnacle of success and achieved something that few ever have in my industry. I give thanks to my Father above, for the talents and wisdom he has blessed me with. For the endurance, dedication, and hard work I’ve been taught and applied throughout the years. I feel truly blessed for the abundant blessings I’ve received. I know that all things are possible with God.
27 And Jesus looking upon them saith, aWith men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are bpossible. -Mark 10:27

“Whatever the mind of man can believe and conceive, it can achieve.” – Napolean Hill

Remember today that with God and faith all things are possible! If you think you can, YOU can!

Top-10-Mobile-apps-to-watch

Mobile applications are steadily gaining popularity and why not?  Smart phones such as the I-phone are having record sales.  Personally I have a blackberry, but am anxious to upgrade to an I-phone soon since I am a Mac lover.  I do have an I-touch and love it!  So what are the top 10 mobile apps to watch?

According to a digital outlook report 09′ done by Razorfish, LLC:

The iPhone exploded onto the mobile landscape last year, acquiring a 12.9% share of the global smartphone market and growing its share in terms of units sold by 327% year-on-year by the third quarter of 2008, according to Gartner.   As of January 16, 2009, over 15,000 applications were offered at the iPhone App Store and more than 500 million applications were downloaded, with over six million applications on average downloaded each day.

These numbers are very staggering.  Here are the top 10:

1. Shop Savvy / Retail / Android G1

2.  Wikitude Augmented Reality Travel Guide /
Hospitality / Android G1

3.  Mint / Financial Services / iPhone

4. WebMD Mobile / Pharmaceuticals / iPhone

5.  Audi A4 / Auto & Gaming / iPhone

6.  nuTsie / Music / BlackBerry, Windows Mobile
Devices, Alltel Devices

7. vSNAX / Video / iPhone

8. iStanford / Social Media / iPhone

9. Cooliris / Search / iPhone

10. ShapeWriter / Productivity / iPhone

You can read more about these applications and what they do specifically if you’re interested.

Out of these top 10 apps the one that sounds the most interesting to me is # 3~ Mint/ Financial Services/ Iphone

We have most definitely entered the mobile world of technology.  Devices are becoming more sophisticated, smaller, and sleek.  They can hold a lot of memory for how small they are.  It is really amazing to think about where things have evolved over the past few years.

If you’re not into apps and smart mobile phones yet, just wait one day it might take you by surprise…..

Badvocacy-the-good-book?

The Good Book of Badvocacy is a brief compilation of what we at Weber Shandwick have learned about badvocacy.
We firmly believe that companies and organizations should be sharply attuned to their badvocates who are enthusiasts driven to influence others.

GBofBadIconWe define badvocates as people who stand on a virtual soapbox to criticize or detract from companies, brands or products. They represent a considerable segment of the global online adult population (20 percent). They are passionate enough to share opinions. Their influence reaches far and wide…on average, they tell 14 other people about a bad experience.  ~Source: Weber Shandwick’s The New Wave of Advocacy™ study conducted with kRC Research 26~

Naysayers, unhappy customers, and others who talk negative can taint the image of a company for other prospective customers who may be inquiring to do business. Customer reviews are often left online and people know they can now influence for either bad or good.

Because of this, all companies should be aware of badvocates…basically the opposite of advocates.  They can be anyone that brings negativity to your company.  In today’s technology world negativity could stem from a blog post, through text messages, or even in conversations.  The web has leashed badvocates more now than ever.

It is important to respond properly to badvocates and not degrade your company further by trying to solve the problems.  The reading suggests 6 steps or solutions:

1. Be prepared

2. Defend yourself

3. Embrace dissatisfaction

4. Apologize

5. Don’t ignore

6. Inoculate

You can learn more about these principles at Weber and Shandwick.

SIM~ Social-influence-Marketing ~ What’s it worth?

Social Media is different than traditional advertising.  It is highly dependent on human interactions and influence.  This in turn demands a new form of marketing called SIM~Social influence marketing. According to a report done by Razorfish, LLC, one segment of SIM is viral marketing.  To measure this approach and its effectiveness three things must be done to understand the impact of social or viral media:

1. Develop a framework and model the behavior so that it can be benchmarked and understood.

2.  By using various technologies to track viral media efforts.

3.  By creating metrics around engagement and social impact that can be tied to sales, conversions, or brand perceptions.

Razorfish also states that saying a marketing program is social (has a viral component) implies two things that differentiate it from other marketing efforts: it has shareable elements and it has elements that are associated with people. In viral SIM, people are now the owners and purveyors of information and not passive receivers of impressions. We believe the incremental value of a social media program is distinguished by these two differences.

Value is added in a viral marketing campaign because of the reach through social media and the endorsements that come through key friends who pass the information along.

In order to measure the social or viral nature of a campaign, a tagging or tracking approach needs to not only differentiate between users who receive a piece of viral media from a friend and those who came across it through other means, such as an ad banner or paid seeding approach, but must also be able to track successive generations of a piece of social media and attribute value to each of those generations of users. Doing so measures the power of the endorsement effect as the content spreads to new sets of consumers. Quantifying viral spread of social media is not just about measuring free downloads or exposures, but understanding how individuals pass along viral media to their friends, how their friends act in return, and the value around each of these groups according to Razorfish, LLC.

Razorfish also suggests that measuring engagement (various measures of usage and utilization) is becoming more common in viral SIM efforts, but the practice of measuring its ROI is almost non-existent. However, understanding both engagement and ROI with viral efforts is necessary to inform key decisions by business leaders and brand managers. As creators of viral media marketing efforts, we need to understand not only if users are engaging with our efforts, but also if those engagements are meaningful in terms of conversions, brand awareness, or purchases downstream.

From Razorfish, LLC~ What’s my SIM effort really worth?

The future of SIM lies in our collective ability to show clients what kind of value they are getting from their social media expenditures. The only way to do this, of course, is to ensure that a comprehensive modeling and measurement approach is in place. It doesn’t matter if your viral media effort has all of the bells and whistles, if you can’t convey its value. What you can say about the success of a viral media effort is wholly dependent on measurement and the ability to tie those metrics to something meaningful.

I believe that social influence marketing is going to continue playing a key role in spreading a message to the world.  When top bloggers and other professionals share information concerning a particular company or product this helps the viral effect take off even more so.  Because of their influence and large readership base in social media, a message can spread throughout the online communities rather quickly.

I am excited to be involved in social media.  It is exciting and new each day as technologies improve and enhance our lives.  I think it’s worth a great deal…~social influence marketing… Let your voice be heard!

How-to-visualize

DSCN0362

Do you have vision for the future?  Do you know how to visualize what you want to attract into your life?  There are many things that inspire me in life and make me ponder the future and the past.  One things for sure though, you and I cannot go back to our yesterday’s and relive.  Once the time passes~it’s gone.   The power of visualization is very powerful!

So let me ask you then, “Are you taking full advantage of each waking hour?  Do you realize your full potential?  Are you living life with no regrets?  The future is unknown, but each of us have the power to control our destiny.  Pen in hand we are each the author of our life and our story.

This brings me to the law of attraction which  is alive and well in our lives.  Generally what we think about comes to pass.  Each of us have great potential within us and we can accomplish whatever we set our minds to.  I truly believe that.  I have seen it work in my own life.  When I put my mind to accomplish a certain task, no matter the climb or obstacle I face, my subconscious mind pushes me through to achieve my desired goal.  There is REAL power in this. Dr Joseph Murphy wrote a bookDSCN0369 about it.

When I am overwhelmed or feeling weighed down, I enjoy taking a step back and visualizing what my opportunities are…what my strengths are…what blessings I have…and most importantly my inner potential of greatness.  It’s inside all of us.

As a challenge, I encourage you to take a step back and visualize the things you want to attract into your life, write them down, and take action!  You can do it!

Using social networking sites to market~

Social networking is possibly one of the fastest growing industries as more and more people are setting up free accounts everyday to re-connect with old friends/colleagues  and to meet new people.  For marketers, Social networking is not advertising necessarily, although it helps lead buyers to making a purchase.  Have you created an account on Facebook, MySpace, Bebo, or my favorite new site, HelloHello?

In the book I’ve been reading, “The New Rules of Marketing and PR,” by David Meerman Scott he suggests a few ideas to optimize social networking pages:

1.  Target a specific audience. ~small niche markets are best!

2.  Be a thought leader. ~provide valuable and useful information for readers.

3.  Be authentic and transparent. ~Be yourself.

4.  Create lots of links. ~Link to your own sites and blog.  Everyone loves links!

IMG_09025.  Encourage people to contact you.  ~Make it easy for people to contact YOU!

6.  Participate. ~Create groups and become an online leader and organizer.

7.  Make it easy to find you.  ~Encourage others to tag your page in Digg and Del. icio. us.

8.  Experiment! ~There really are no experts in social networking.  We’re all just learning as we go!

In my online journey of social networking I am fascinated by how quickly news can travel.  Last night during a thunder and lightning storm, I decided to shoot a few pics and post them on Facebook.  Within minutes of posting the pics, my friends who were online were already commenting and saying, “great pics, what kind of camera?” etc.  That tis the power of social networking!
